Q: [Can I get a stained finish put on the cribbage board to match my wood work at home ?]
A: [NO. We finish our boards with a durable clear polyurethane that allows the natural grain of the woods to show.]
Q: [Why doesn't the cherry on your Wood Samples page match the cherry wood in my home ?]
A: [The cherry wood in your home may have darkened with age.
If the color tone is more reddish, then it probably has a red
pigment added to the finish by the manufacturer. We only use a
clear finish. Our cherry boards will continue to darken with
age, depending on the exposure to light.]
Q: [Is the wood on the Water Wheel finished to protect it from the weather ?]
A: [NO. We don't recommend putting a finish on the cedar wood.
It will naturally weather and turn a silvery gray when dry, but will
remain the reddish cedar color when wet. If the Water Wheel is
being used in a pond with plants and fish, DO NOT put a finish or
wood preservative on, as it may contaminate the water and harm the
fish and plants.]
Q: [Can a finish or wood preservative be put on the Mill Building to protect it from the weather ?]
A: [YES. It is not needed, but it can be done so as to
preserve the reddish cedar tones of the wood.]
